National Consortium for the Teaching About Asia (NCTA)
About NCTA
The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), funded by the Freeman Foundation, is a multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about Asia in world history, geography, social studies, and literature courses. It is a nation-wide professional development program for K-12 teachers to encourage the infusion of Asian materials into the classroom. Beginning Fall 2007, Asian Studies will begin hosting the NCTA seminar for the 10 southernmost counties of Florida. It will consist of: - 30-hour seminar in 9 sessions
- One Saturday a month beginning in September
- Location: FIU's University Park Campus
- 9:30 am - 2:00 pm (includes lunch break) in the Green Library, room 220
- Topics include: East Asian history, religion, international and political affairs, geography, literature, culture, and more
Benefits to the Participants - Instruction by experts in the field of Asian Studies
- An Honorarium or In-Service Points will be awarded upon completion
- Textbooks provided to teacher/participants
- Master plan credit and/or course credit available
Main Requirement - Create lesson plan infusing Asia into the curriculum
