Project Benefits
1) Instruction by experts in
Japanese Studies from FIU and other universities in the U.S.,
Japan, and Latin America (Years 2 and 3).
2) $100 value in seminar
materials (books and readings) participants.
3) For middle and high school
teachers, $300 upon completion of ten seminar sessions and
submission of an implementation plan.
4) For middle and high school
teachers, $200 upon completion and presentation of an infused sample
course syllabus.
5) In appropriate cases,
teachers may be eligible to receive in-service credit.
6) In appropriate cases,
participants may arrange at their own expense to receive FIU credits
through independent study supervised by one of the JapaNet instructors.
7) Interested participants may
wish to build on their workshop experience by joining a study
tour to Japan organized by FIU or another institution.
Project Goals
As participants become more
familiar with Japanese history and cultural traditions, they will gain a
greater understanding of the issues facing Japan today. They will be
able to incorporate information from the program into their own
curriculum and act as resource persons for their school district.
The three main goals of the project are:
1) Instruction in Japanese
cultural history and current affairs.
2) Infusion of curriculum with
Japanese content.
3) Formation of a permanent
resource of material in Japanese studies.
